A bit more in-depth than the O'Grady book, but they complemented each other well and were both required reading for almost all of the lectures and seminars. Both books were always on loan at the library, so it would be wise to have your own copy. Paid �35 for both books at the Student Bookshop last year.

Interesting and easy to read study on how children first acquire language skills. Bought this with Clark book from Student Bookshop for £35 last year. Was always on loan at the library, so worth having your own copy of this (and Clark) as they were needed for background reading for almost all the lectures and seminars.

Very interesting and easy to read. I found this book invaluable. I paid £14.99 at CUP bookshop 3 years ago and it was well worth it.

It was the key text in the 'Phonetics & Phonology' module and is very readable and easy to understand. I also used this for my dissertation as it helped me explain some phonetic qualities of individuals' speech. Very useful and highly recommended.

| Another big, fat paperback, complete with CD-ROM. No markings or scribblings inside. Was used for BA (Hons) English Language degree in modules such as 'Revealing English Structure'. Is easy to read and everything is listed alphabetically, with lots of examples provided too. Very useful and worth the money. I paid £30.84 for it at Borders (the price sticker is still on the back) about three years ago and it was worth it.
